Virus Scanning Services

Frequently Asked Questions:

How does it work?
The Solis email virus scanning service intercepts all incoming and (optionally) outgoing email and checks it for known virus content.  If a virus is found the system will attempt to remove it.  If the virus cannot be removed, the email will be deleted and the intended recipient notified that the email has been deleted and who the sender was.
In every case, the sender of a message containing a virus will be notified.  This will enable them to take immediate remedial action to prevent further dissemination.

What Virus scanning software does it use?
The virus definition files are supplied from Network Associates and automatically updated on a daily basis.

Does it slow down the delivery of an email?
Yes.  It can (especially at busy times), add about a minute to the delivery time of an email.

Who can use the service?
The scanning is done on a 'per domain' basis so you must have your own fully qualified domain name maintained by Solis.
It doesn't matter if you have your incoming mail delivered by smtp, single or multiple pop3 accounts

What service level guarantees do you offer on this?
None.  Although we believe the service to be robust and highly effective, we simply cannot guarantee to catch all new virus releases - it's impossible and we doubt anyone can truly make that claim.
We do, however, believe that it's a very good and transparent way of protecting customers - often from themselves, but would always recommend all computer users' adhere to a very strict IT policy which includes frequent updates of their own anti-virus software.

What does it cost?
The email virus scanning service costs £45 per quarter + VAT per domain
