INSTRUCTIONS FOR UPLOADING WEB PAGES

When you opened your account with Solis, you will have been allocated 25 Megabytes of free webspace. You can take advantage of this space by downloading an FTP Client such as WS-FTP.

http://www.solis.co.uk/ftp/ws_ftple.exe

Whichever FTP program you use, it should, on startup, bring up a 'Session Properties' or 'Site Manager'.  To make a Homepage entry in this, click on 'new' or 'add', and fill out the fields as detailed below

WS FTP LE Setup screen

(For those of you who've turned your graphics off, these details are:)
Profile Name: My Homepage
Host NameAddress: homepages.solis.co.uk
User id: your login name
Password: your password

Hit OK once all relevent fields have been filled in correctly.

When you wish to connect to the site, highlight the created profile ('My Homepage' if you used the description in the example above) and press the 'OK' button.

You will then see the directory system on your local computer in the left hand window, and your homepage directory in the right hand windows with the directory's 'bin' and 'www'. All Web files must go into the 'WWW' directory or into subdirectories of this.

Once you are in the correct directory for both your local machine and your homepage site, you can then select the required files to be uploaded by hitting the '-->' button in the middle of the screen.

Please Note:
The internet standard for the name of the first page that you want people to see, should be index.htm NOT Index.htm or InDeX.HtM (Unix is very case sensitive.) Any reference on your pages to any other pages must also be matching case. To keep it all nice and simple, we recommend the global internet filename standard of all lower case.

To view your page goto:

http://homepages.solis.co.uk/~login

where 'login' is your login name as supplied by us on your Welcome Letter.

The Solis homepages free web server is probably one of the fastest and most reliable free web provisions in the UK and is a collaborative project between Solis, Nildram and redsys.
Because this is a shared free server you may get odd error messages from Nildram, Primex, Redsys or whatever.  Don't panic, we'll fix this eventually!

Do bear in mind that as it's free, it's unsupported.
Please do not contact Solis for Technical Support or web design queries :-)
